Construction Accident Lawyer Comments On Brooklyn Construction Worker’s Critical Injury

LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman comments on a recent accident that resulted in a local man's death in Brooklyn, New York. As reported by ABC7NY.com a local construction worker fell into a 15-foot trench at about 8:30 AM on April 22nd while working at a site on E. 49th Street and Rutland Road. The report claims that the victim fell into the trench, and was immediately rushed to Kings County Hospital while in critical condition. Moverman comments that incidents such as this occur far too frequently in the construction field, and serious injuries such as this should serve at a wake up call for changes to be made.

Dr. Brian Yokers was the doctor in the emergency room when dispatch reported the incident. The doctor realizing that the scene of the accident was right around the corner, ran out of the emergency room in an attempt to provide the victim with the best treatment possible. The victim was still breathing when Dr. Yokers arrived on the scene, and with the help of FDNY, the victim was able to be stabilized and removed from the trench.

OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) has begun to investigate the accident. According to the agency, there are an estimated 2.3 million construction workers at any given time. There were 818 fatal slips, trips, and falls in 2014 alone, which has increased each year since 2011 exponentially. According to BLS.gov (Bureau of Labor Statistics), there was an increase of 94 fatal injuries that occurred due to slips, trips, and falls from 2013 to 2014. Some of the most prevalent injuries sustained in construction accidents are lacerations, fractures, and brain injuries.
