Link Between Biotin Deficiency, Pregnancy, and Hair Loss Reported by 30 Star

30 Star, a San Diego, CA based health and nutrition company have recently revealed that they have reason to believe that there is a link between biotin (vitamin B7) deficiency and hair loss and pregnancy. This could be a very interesting development for women who find that their hair falls out when they are pregnant.

"Hair loss during pregnancy is actually very common," says 30 Star's Michael Jennings. "In most cases, women are told that it is simply their body adapting to the new hormones coursing through their body. While there is some truth in this, we have reason to believe that some women lose their hair because of biotin deficiency during pregnancy."

Hair loss during pregnancy is often attributed to some level of anemia. Because higher levels of iron are needed to provide the unborn baby with a good blood supply, other bodily functions, including hair growth, are having to pay the price. This is one of the reasons why it is so important for pregnant woman to take vitamin and mineral supplements. 30 Star recommends these supplements include biotin as well.

Significant research has demonstrated that hair is affected in two thirds of all woman who are pregnant. Half of those find that their hair becomes more beautiful and shiny. The other half, however, find that it falls out. This can happen both during pregnancy and just after. A lot of tips exist to help women who are going through this, but very little information exist on the actual causes of this.

"It is absolutely true that the hormones released through a pregnant woman's body lead to a variety of changes," adds Michael Jennings. "However, there are certain cases where the cause is actually biotin deficiency. Since this deficiency can lead to birth defects, we really want to encourage women to watch out for symptoms and to take supplements."

Pregnant women are now being told where to buy biotin. Since it is available over the counter, there is no need to ask for a prescription. However, it is always recommended to speak with a medical professional first.
