Immortalitea Issues Comments Regarding New Findings About The Herb Jiaogulan

Today, The Immortalitea Company released comments regarding a new study published in the Journal of Cancer Research on the effects of the little known Chinese herb, Gynostemma pentaphyllum on human gut macrobiota (gut flora.)

In the most recent publication of the Journal of Cancer Research, a publication of the American Cancer Society, researchers from Hong Kong reported on the effects of the herb Gynostemma pentaphyllum on gut microbiota.

The study authors, from Hong Kong explained their rational for the study as follows, “The human gut harbors 100 trillion microbes that are intrinsically linked to an individual's health and diseases, including cancer. Several previous studies have indicated potential anti-carcinogenic benefits to consumption Gynostemma pentaphyllum (aka Jiaogulan).”

The Researchers wondered if these benefits are due to beneficial effects of Gynostemma on gut flora.

The study found, “saponins in Gynostemma (GpS) improved the gut barrier function by increasing the numbers of Paneth cells, goblet cells, up-regulating the expression of E-cadherin and down-regulating the expression of N-cadherin in the intestine. In addition, GpS down-regulated the protein expression of beta-catenin and the p-STAT3.”

Ralph Kenney, the Chief Herbalist at The Immortalitea Company commented on the study, “In layman’s terms, Gynostemma increases the population of beneficial gut flora and decreased harmful gut flora. The researchers also found that Gynostmma reduced gut inflammation and improved tissue repair.

"This research is not conclusive it terms of a link between the benefits to gut flora and the cancer benefits Gynostemma but does suggest further research should be done. Furthermore, the benefits to gut flora and the accompanying reduction in inflammation indicate Gynostemma may also be helpful to the many people suffering from various intestinal disorders including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS.)

"We’re always conservative about research, especially animal studies, but given the other known health benefits of Jiaogulan (Gynostemma) and the fact that it has no known adverse side effects, IBS sufferers and people at risk of cancer may be well advised to add jiaogulan to their daily routines.”

Gynostemma may be consumed in either tea or supplement forms and is available here: www.immortalitea.com/store/p/27-Premium-Jiaogulan-Gynostemma-Tea.aspx.
