Xarelto Lawsuit: New Results From Study On Blood Thinner Antidote

BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on recent developments in ongoing studies related to the efficacy of andexanet alfa - a potential antidote to the dangerous side affects of Xarelto and other prescription blood thinners.

Results from a study being conducted by Portola Pharmaceuticals showed that the company’s developmental drug significantly reduced bleeding and reversed the anticoagulant effects of rivaroxaban.

About Xarelto & Andexanet Alfa

Xarelto is part of a new class of prescription blood thinners known as Novel Oral Anticoagulants (NOACs), which have had major success in the US market over the last few years.

However, studies have recently linked these drugs to dangerous side effects including excessive bleeding, which can lead to serious injury and death.

The problem is that there is no antidote available for certain blood thinning medications, such as Xarelto, to reverse anticoagulant effects in the event of excessive bleeding.

Growing concerns over the safety of these prescription blood thinners has sparked a search for a reversal agent.

Andexanet alfa is one investigational drug which is currently being tested as a universal antidote to Factor Xa inhibitors including Xarelto, Eliquis, Edoxaban and similar drugs.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has designated andexanet alfa as a breakthrough therapy in an effort to expedite its development and review.

This specific study compared andexanet alfa and its effectiveness in reversing the anticoagulant effects of rivaroxaban in an animal model of bleeding.

According to study results, andexanet alfa significantly reduced blood loss and reversed the anticoagulant activity of rivaroxaban.

The findings were first presented at International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) Congress on June 24th, 2015.

Lawsuits Being Filed Against Drug Companies

“While this is great news, there is still much work to be done," commented Marc Goldich from BloodThinnerHelp.com in response to the study results.

"Millions of patients throughout the country are currently taking Xarelto and other blood thinners despite the fact that there is no antidote available yet. Our firm is continuing to assist individuals and families in filing lawsuits regarding the side effects of Xarelto or other blood thinners," continued Goldich.
